Throughout today’s classical guitar playing field, Wu Manni is undoubtedly a new generation of classical guitar players that deserves attention in China.
Wu Manni fell in love with the guitar at the age of seven because she heard her father play, and began a hard learning journey. In 2010, she was admitted to the Department of Modern Music of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, majoring in classical guitar with honors.
After graduating in 2014, she won a German national scholarship and went to the Robert Schumann Academy of Music in Düsseldorf to study for a master’s degree in classical guitar with the world-renowned classical guitarist Joaquin Clerch .
In 2018, she continued to study for the highest degree player’s diploma (Konzertexamen) in German guitar performance , which is also one of the only three doctoral places in the school’s musical instrument major; in the same year, she became a famous Spanish string manufacturer. KNOBLOCH is a contracted player of precious classical guitar strings and has left her performance footprints all over the world. After graduation, she was employed as a teacher at the School of Music of Jiangsu Normal University. While educating people, she also insisted on her own path as a performer.
The repertoire of this concert was carefully planned by Wu Manni. In her vision, this is a journey of ” touching the soul with music” , and she hopes to convey her story to the audience through the notes.
For example, the two opening songs of the concert – “Pulsar” and “Blue” , composed by the British classical guitarist and composer Vincent Linksy Clark, tell a story composed of A beautiful friendship from the guitar.
Wu Manni got acquainted with Vincent because of the piece “Pulsar”. The composer was very moved by a Chinese girl’s understanding and performance of the piece. As its name suggests, this song compares the pulsars that periodically pass the earth to a cosmic lighthouse, guiding the way forward in the vast darkness, as explained by Wu Manni:
“If you want to conquer the anxiety and confusion in your life, please stick to what you love to your heart’s content, and use this tenacity to guide you in the right direction when you live in the moment and in every breath .”
Inspired by Wu Manni’s performance, Vincent specially composed “Blue” for her in 2020, which continued the emotional tone and musical elements of “Pulsar”, and wished Wu Manni to be more and more on the road of pursuing her dream. the better.
In the midsummer in the south, the enthusiastic side of classical guitar will also be presented on the stage. I believe that Wu Manni’s enthusiasm and love for playing will also be passed on to the audience through the strings.
She planned to trace the feelings of the Spanish guitar, playing two piano works by the composer Isaac Albeniz – “Mara Guena” and “Mallorca” in the “Spanish Suite”. The classical guitar performance shows the unrestrainedness of the Spaniards, and also allows the audience and friends to feel the unique charm of the art of touching strings from this ingenious arrangement.
What will bloom with it will be the infinite enthusiasm of the other side of the ocean – the land of South America. Wu Manni will continue the passion of the Spanish and lead the audience across the ocean to Argentina: shrouded in the hot summer in the south, listen to “Summer of Buenos Aires”; “Death of an Angel” “dances” the redemption of life, giving Piazzolla ‘s music another rebirth in the reinterpretation of classical guitar.
At the same time, the concert also brought together many famous classical guitar songs familiar to audiences and friends, such as the ring finger track “The Last Trill” and “Memories of the Alhambra” . Using complex and difficult performance skills flexibly, Manni Wu led everyone to savor the amazing expressiveness and complexity of classical guitar, feel the performance of both skill and emotion, and try to lead the audience to a soft and warm experience of classical guitar. of memory and resonance.
