Upcoming Performance | 9/4 “JAZZ IN CHINA: SEESAW” Project R Season Two

September 4, 2022 @ 9:30 pm 11:30 pm

Jazz is a free-flowing river, and no other genre of music can compare. In its 100-year history, along with migration and the deep integration of humanities, jazz has become the most vital symbol in music culture. Its integration with the world always continues.

As jazz enters China, in what ways should it be rooted, popularized and localized? Under the completely different bases of traditional Chinese instruments and Western instruments, how could these different music elements be fused together? The answers to all these questions have been explored by generations of Chinese jazz musicians. As the main concept of Project R Season two, we will explore how Chinese musicians integrate traditional native instruments into jazz. Our guest band of the season’s first volume is SEESAW, a jazz fusion band led by keyboardist Feng Wei. During the two-day performances, they will deliver their original oriental jazz repertoire.
