Upcoming Performance | 7/16 Year of Dreams: Takeshi Sakamoto

We’re inviting you to join the solo original concert by Japanese drummer Takeshi Sakamoto who is also an album producer and a composer. The performance will include Sakamoto’s originally composed and arranged music. Although the overall style is categorized as modern jazz, you could feel the influence of various contemporary music genres such as PostRock, NeoSoul, R&B and HipHop.

In October 2019, Sakamoto released his solo album “Dream”, for which he won the 31st Golden Melody Award for Best Music Producer in the performance category.

Year of Dreams: Takeshi Sakamoto Original Concert 7/16

After the Takeshi Sakamoto T.S.O.P Band toured Japan at the end of February 2019, Kenji Sakamoto invited Tokyo and Taiwan’s well-known golden pianist Zeng Zengyi, crossover bassist Zhang Weizhi, and Japan’s famous saxophonist Kazuhiko Kondo and guitarist Naoto Tanaka . The five of them recorded Sakamoto’s first solo album “Dream” . Each track in the album represents a season or a landscape.

In the year of dreams, sojourning in the City of Dreams, the jazz musician’s heart knows no borders. Sakamoto has immersed himself in music for many years and accumulated rich musical expressions. His multinational experiences have led him to be constantly influenced by styles other than jazz. And along with his native Japanese traditional melodies, he has incorporated them into his compositions as a way to trace back to his life’s footprints. The night of 7/16 is destined to be a sublime journey through various emotions and seasons.

Takeshi Sakamoto T.S.O.P Band

Drum Takeshi Sakamoto
Sakamoto studied classical piano at a young age and began performing and recording professionally as a drummer in Japan at the age of 21, working with various local artists on TV shows, radio, commercials and musicals. In 2009, he moved to New York to study jazz at Brooklyn Music Conservatory and then transferred to City College Of New York BFA Jazz Department to major in jazz. He has performed locally and collaborated with some of the world’s leading jazz musicians. He studied jazz drumming with Greg Hutchinson, Marc Fever and Nathaniel Townsley.

Guitar Xu Ke
During 2009-2013, Xu studied guitar at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music in the Department of Modern Music. With the passion for jazz, he gave up his job in 2016, thus starting his career as a professional musician. He has studied and cooperated with musicians including Roman Pilon, Gu Zhongshan, Tommy Ho and many others. His delicate and spatial guitar performance provides a unique listening experience.

Bass Hideyuki Otani Ba
Started playing guitar and bass in junior high school. Since high school, he joined the local wind band as a trumpet player. From college, he studied systematically and played jazz in Tokyo, and has several solo works. Since April 2019, he has been to Shenzhen for various jazz performances and has worked with many excellent musicians.
