About ELVIS, 1979 (screening on 7/3)

The story begins in 1969 as Elvis nervously awaits his Las Vegas debut. His heart was full of uncertainty as he wondered if he would still take hold of the stage another ten years. The camera takes us back to 1945, where we see Elvis receives a guitar for Christmas, an especially crucial moment as we are about to enter the journey of his life. There have been different versions of the Elvis Presley biopic, but the 1979 version is widely regarded as the most valuable. Kurt Russell’s performance brought Elvis back to life — whether it was his mannerisms, voice, or performance, Russell was no longer himself, his aura was taken over by the charm of Elvis.

This landmark work of television biography was first created two years after Elvis Presley’s death when the beloved pop culture icon was still vivid and unforgettable in people’s minds.The biography was created with the utmost respect for Elvis Presley and touches on key moments in his life.
