August 27, 2022 @ 10:30 am 3:30 pm

Bosa and Uwe
Steam Punk Puppet and Shadow Theatre
by Regenerant Lab & The A.S.K.

The Story:

On the edge of the cliff lived a little girl, Bosa, with
one green eye and one blue eye
dreaming of making wings and flying across the sea to
find her mother who became a mermaid

Uwe, a smart and talkative murloc bird,
speaks human language and understands human dreams. He
accidentally fell behind during
his migration and met the “weird girl” Bossa.

“Different” can also be very beautiful
Uwe into the bossa dreams
two lone junior partner
try to fly along the sea ……

About the Show:

This beautiful children’s show comprises multiple puppet characters and musical instruments to tell a beautiful story of a girl called Bosa, and a bird called Uwe. The show includes masterfully hand-created mechanical puppets that come to life on stage and make for an aesthically beautiful show for all ages from 4-104.

In contrast, the furniture and daily necessities of the human girl Bossa are only as big as a mobile phone and a matchbox…

In “Bossa and the Murloc”, in addition to those cute underwater monsters, you will also encounter many dazzling “mysterious devices”, each of which is like an independent playground, full of hidden treasure surprises and a little warmth.

For example, in this “lighting device”, which is a popular “lighting device”, plastic balls of various colors and sizes are rattling and rolling in this “pinball machine”. Is it unusual to turn on the lights with such fanfare? This type of device that specializes in “simple things complex” is called the “Rube Goldberg machine”, named after the American cartoonist Rube Goldberg. Often seen in his comics, the device “adds drama” to everyday actions through ingenious mechanical settings.

Looking closer, I found that these big guys are really made of “waste”! In the “waste research institute” that created them, there is a group of “waste researchers” who have been playing sleepless nights from childhood to adulthood.

Their secret is: Use what you have, Do what you want. The rattan has become the skeleton of the octopus, the leftovers from the cobbler’s shop and the shells picked up by the sea have become the fins of the monkfish… In short, there is no useless waste, only bold enough imagination!

3. Hand-made mechanical puppets: The large-scale mechanical puppets hidden in the details are naturally the biggest highlight of this show. How can a puppet master flexibly control a one-person-high puppet? Its secret is hidden in… This doll is covered in traps! Different joints in the whole body have corresponding operation methods…let’s talk about the feet, the puppet master puts on this pair of special shoes, and the puppet is “integrated into one”. And this hand the size of a real child, every finger can move flexibly~ Don’t look at it now it’s just a skeleton with rolling eyes, and soon it will wear beautiful clothes and turn into long red curly hair. The beautiful girl Bossa la ~

4. Fishbone Music Car + Retro Light and Shadow: The mobile dream factory, apart from the two puppet masters on the stage, what brought us into the deep dreamland of the girl Bossa, dived into the vast underwater world, and created a scene of memories that lit up the sky ?

This requires the help of two “mysterious characters” on the stage, which are lighting and sound effects. The magic weapon of light and shadow is an old-fashioned projector, which takes us into the colorful and warm cottage of Bossa…

It also leads us into the different dreams and memories of Bossa and Uvici…

When folk music meets steampunk theater… There is also a special installation at the scene – a fishbone-shaped music car: There are many familiar and unfamiliar musical instruments hanging on the fishbone car, as well as rain sticks that imitate rain , iron pieces imitating thunder, and even the ethereal bone wind chimes in the animated film “Jiang Ziya”…

Among the more than 20 kinds of musical instruments on the scene, there are also many traditional national musical instruments, such as the harmonica of the Ewenki people. When steampunk meets folk musical instruments, what kind of special spark will it bring to this fantastic journey across time and space?

The musical director of the crew, Norman, is a talented Mongolian girl. Do you still remember the Internet celebrity song “Auspicious Three Treasures” in the Spring Festival Gala in 2006? It was written and sung by Norman’s parents when she was three years old, inspired by everyday conversations. In an environment where art is integrated into blood and daily life, Norman started composing at the age of 8. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, he also became a music creator and was also fascinated by traditional folk music. Fang Wenshan praised as “self-made” A group of post-90s beauty musicians”.

On the stage of “Bossa and the Murloc”, the mysterious and fun dubbing process in the past will also be different from the usual “low-key style” behind the scenes, choosing to be “naked” exposed on the stage, so that we can “see” one with our own eyes. Famous musicians are worthy of an orchestra, witnessing the whole process of the birth of various magical sound effects at close range and on the spot.

In addition, a little spoiler 👀, in addition to being responsible for sound production and narration, Norman will also use a Mongolian song to show us the dream of Bossa. Will reality “eat” Poza’s dream? Can the “different” Bossa get the help of Uwei and leap over the magnificent sea?

After reading their stories, the “Bossa and Uwe” sitting in the audience may have their own answers…
