January 19 All day

He once won first place in the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, which is the most prestigious in the jazz industry. His music is known for its complex structures, bold improvisations and “pure swing”. Guitarist Mike Moreno’s “Downbeat” calls him: “One of the most watched guitarists today.” Bassist Matt Penman hails from New Zealand and is a member of the SFJazz Collective, an eight-member composer collective dedicated to showcasing its members’ original compositions as well as the oeuvres of jazz greats.

Drums: Jochen Rueckert

Jochen Rueckert, founder of the quartet, German-American drummer. He has collaborated with countless jazz greats, and you can see his name on more than 120 contemporary jazz albums. In 2011, Rueckert established his own quartet, with a fixed orchestration of “guitar-saxophone-bass-drums”. The personnel involved in recording and touring are often replaced. They will definitely show the audience the most orthodox and most popular contemporary American jazz. Unpredictable two phases. The rhythm of Rueckert’s playing is very tight. He relies on intensive percussion and flexible transitions to complete a series of percussions with small movements, from which you can feel the full strength and elasticity. His playing does not tend to be complex and fancy, but focuses on stability and precision, which is very consistent with the entire quartet’s temperament of giving full play to creativity in a low-key manner.

Listening to them requires patience and concentration. If you can concentrate, follow Rueckert’s rhythm and feel the unique contemporary harmonic effects that stimulate your hearing, and then try to understand the tension and fluidity contained in each improvised phrase, There will definitely be unexpected gains.

Seamus Blake was born in London, England, and Blake grew up in Vancouver, Canada. His mother taught him jazz as a child, and he moved to New York after graduating from the Berklee College of Music. In February 2002, he won first place in the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, which is the most prestigious in the jazz world. He currently leads his own quintet (David Kikoski, Lage Lund, Bill Stewart and Matt Clohesy) while also collaborating with many other New York-based musicians.

“Mike Moreno’s musical language often reminds people of the poet’s thinking. His sensitivity and expression are extremely literary. “His fatal attraction lies in the sadness that often exists in his timbre,” like a silent sigh, The emotions trapped in his chest overflowed into his voice, which was full of stickiness, which showed that he had profound skills.
