BGM Project (Quartet)

The BGM Quartet is a diverse professional band that is not limited by musical styles. It was initiated by jazz musician Nie Xin. Each member has jazz music learning experience in different countries, which makes them more willing to use new sounds and new music definitions. Belong to their “background music” (BGM). As the drummer in the band, Nie Xin has led or participated in many international music projects, and has won many awards; pianist Deng Yameng, saxophonist Fu Yuchen and bassist Yu Jiahui are all young teachers at Xinghai Conservatory of Music. And electronic effect elements are brought into the band, so that the sound atmosphere of the whole band has more possibilities.

Deng YamengPiano

Young jazz pianist, composer, jazz piano teacher at Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and also teaches professional courses such as jazz theory and jazz ensemble. In 2014, he graduated from the Department of Modern Music of Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music, majoring in jazz performance. He studied under Benoit Stasiaczyk (Peng Xiaobo), a famous jazz percussionist/composer and head of the Department of Modern Instrumental Music. In 2014, he represented the college to participate in the 2nd China (Shanghai) Jazz Competition, and won the Gold Award for Jazz Piano Solo, the Best Original Composition Award, and the band Mr. Poo won the Team Silver Award.

In September 2015, he continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Belgium, and obtained a master’s degree in jazz piano performance. In the summer of 2016, he participated in the Italian Tuscia European International Jazz Competition and won the third place, and received the full prize of the 2017 summer jazz master class. His solo jazz album “Take Your Time” was released in October 2017 to great acclaim.

After returning to China, he is still active in the Chinese modern music circle as a performer, and has been invited to participate in Shanghai Jazz Festival, Chengdu International Jazz Festival, Guangzhou International Jazz Festival, Zhuhai Jazz Festival, Shenzhen Jazz Festival and other large-scale music festivals. A young jazz saxophonist in the United States, a professional jazz saxophone teacher at the School of Modern Music and Drama of Xinghai Conservatory of Music. He has been invited many times to attend the Chengdu Jazz Festival, Changchun Jazz Festival, Shenzhen International Jazz Festival, Guangzhou Jazz Festival, Zhuhai Hengqin Jazz Week, Huizhou Jazz Festival, etc., and is active in major domestic music stages. During his stay in the United States, he attended the SATCHMO Award (Louis Armstrong Education Foundation, Jazz Education and Achievement Award) gala, Italian Cultural Center, Flushing Town Hall, Cleopatra’s Needle Jazz Club and other performances.

In 2019, he obtained a master’s degree from Aaron Colpland School of Music, Queens College-CUNY, City University of New York, USA, and studied under the Grammy’s best jazz instrumental saxophonist and dean of jazz department Antonio Antonio Hart, while studying with jazz trumpet player and Grammy award-winning arranger Michael. Stylist, guitarist, keyboard player, music producer, solo photographer, music book translator. Graduated from Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music, majoring in Jazz Guitar and Jazz, under the tutelage of jazz expert Professor Benoit Stasiaczyk (France), famous guitarist Bastian Hildner (Germany) and famous Guangzhou Jazz Guitar Cai Jian, playing styles spanning jazz, latin, funk, fusion, rock and pop. Currently, he is a teacher of jazz instrumental music and guitar in the School of Modern Music and Drama of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and also teaches jazz solfeggio and jazz ensemble classes; Guitar, pop keyboard and pop band rehearsal teacher; and taught digital arrangement courses at Central University; has many years of teaching experience in performance and production. He is the judge of the program groups such as “The Voice of China”, “The Voice of China”, “The Singer is Coming”; the arranger of the first Chinese New Song; one of the founders of the Aeolian Musicians Alliance, the founder of Aeolian BassChannel, the founder of Aeolian BassChannel Manager; has been invited to participate in the Jazz Shanghai Music Festival, the Guangzhou Jazz Festival, the Guangzhou Jazz Carnival, the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Jazz Festival and many other jazz music events.
