《A Historical Story of a Jam Session》

On a summer night in 1952, Norman Granz gathered some of the greatest jazz musicians of their generation for a recording session at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California . Granz’s idea was to have the assembled musicians jam and see what happened. For the Radio Recorders owner , this was his favorite form of jazz : a jam session.

The members who participated in the “session” are all very outstanding , including trumpeter Charlie Shavers, three of the most famous alto saxophone players of all time : Benny Carter, Johnny Hodges , Charlie Parker, two tenor giants of Flip Phillips, and Ben Webster, pianist Oscar Peterson, guitarist Barney Kessel, bass giant Ray Brown and drummer JC Heard . The miracle status established by this album will allow listeners to hear that blues and jazz are in the pockets of musicians , so “casual” and “weighty”.

Keyboard Xie Zifeng

Keyboardist, music producer

Shenzhen University majored in popular instrumental music. Currently active in the Shenzhen jazz scene, with his own original works. His style spans jazz, funk, fusion, R&B, soul and pop, exploring his own unique language in harmony and rhythm.

Bass Song Shaowei

Shenzhen University Jinzhong Conservatory of Music, Department of Music Performance, Bass major student. Learned bass, improvisation and ensemble from bass player Wang Xubo at school. Currently active in various jazz live performances and Jam Session activities in Shenzhen, and exchanges and learns with Shenzhen jazz musicians. Participated in the “Ray trio” jazz concert and “Zhang Tejia • Dreaming for You Live” MPK Livehouse special, participated in the “Reverberation Music Festival” HOU LIVE; participated in the “Steinway Art Scholarship” professional exhibition in 2023 and won the “Steinway Scholarship”, won the Shenzhen Percussion Festival Popular Instrumental Group Championship in 2023, participated in the variety show “Flash Founder” in 2023, and won the first prize in the jazz group of the French “Gabriel Fauré ” International Music Competition

Graduated from the Department of Music Performance and Popular Instrumental Music Performance of Shenzhen University, studied drums with jazz drummer Zhan Minghui, president of Shenzhen Percussion Association , and studied jazz ensemble with jazz performer Wang Xubo.
