January 27 @ 7:30 pm 11:59 pm

“Carmen” is based on the novel of the same name by the French writer Mérimée, which was later adapted into an opera by Bizet and became world-famous. Over the hundreds of years since its birth, Carmen has been interpreted in different art forms such as literature, music, film, opera, dance, etc., and has also created different artistic images of Carmen.

Different from other versions, the Shenzhen version of “Carmen” retains the essence of the original work, bringing the fiery image of Carmen from a hundred years ago to modern times, presenting it with extremely intense stage art and more innovative expressions to connect with the audience. meet to make it more in line with contemporary people’s aesthetics and understanding.

In terms of plot, the Shenzhen version of “Carmen” uses the first-person perspective of the heroine Carmen, cleverly combining reality and fantasy, and integrating many fantasies into reality. Through the narrator’s narration, Carmen’s spiritual world is perfectly combined with the classic plot, guiding the audience to enter and explore Carmen’s inner world. The contrast between virtuality and reality further highlights the cruelty and ruthlessness of the real world, causing the audience to experience ups and downs between imagination and reality, breaking their hearts, and bringing a strong shock and cleansing of the soul to the audience.

Director Pattia Deida said when talking about the creation of this opera that this “Shenzhen version” of “Carmen” is different from the traditional “Carmen”. The overall creation is unique from Chinese and European cultures. Based on the aesthetic inspiration drawn from customs, language, colors and shapes, based on previous stage scripts, the basic plot and classic arias are retained, and the stage beauty, costumes and forms are innovatively adapted. By creatively using a symbolic dream stage setting, using the “Tarot cards” in Gypsy culture as a clue, and incorporating Chinese elements such as “circles, fans, and red flowers”, the events surrounding the theme of Carmen’s fate are made The story will be richer…
