Finsent

Hong Kong-born creator Finsent C has a more refined approach to music since launching his DJ career in 2009. A former drummer and band member, he finally found his true inspiration in electronic music, especially techno music that is invisible and hypnotizing. He sees DJing as an ongoing journey — something that takes time and patience between the DJ and the audience. He even used the name “Cipher” to show his expectations and vision for party music – Finsent most hopes that the audience can get an otherworldly experience like being “baptized”. Both local and foreign creators can express their creativity at the “Cipher” party with deep, experimental, and spiritually oriented sounds and movements. Finsent has played his tricks at parties big and small both locally and overseas. Such as the local Sonar Festival and Shifumiz, Thailand’s Wonderfruit, and also the resident DJ of local underground nightclubs, such as Acadana, 宀club, Oma, Social Room, you can see the trace of Finsent. In 2020, he stepped onto the international stage at Boiler Room under the name of party organization Utopia. In addition, Finsent will also cooperate with Hong Kong post-modern dance groups to combine electronic music and modern dance into experimental performances. He was also invited to perform in other Asian regions (Japan, Vietnam), and at the same time traveled to major cities in China, injecting new dance energy into the underground party venues in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other places.

Finsent C is an artist native to Hong Kong, who has seen his sound evolve innumerably since his initial foray into DJing in 2009. Having been a drummer and member of a local band in his formative years, he eventually sought refuge in electronic music; cultivating a sound that can best be described as fluid, and with an emphasis on the hypnotic spectrum of techno. He perceives sets as flowing journeys, which requires time, and an element of patience to achieve. His music project – Cipher, is a metaphor for his musical direction and vision – ‘experiencing’ parties that verge on the ritualistic, to which point they have been described as otherworldly. Artists both locally and internationally continue to be invited to express their various forms of deep, experimental and meditative sounds.Finsent has been playing in many respectable venues and festivals both locally and internationally. From Hong Kong’s Sonar festival and Shifumiz to Wonderfruit in Thailand, Finsent manages to give out his rolling DJ sets at those large-scale festivals. Yet, he’s also comfortable to play in intimate club venues. You can catch his journey-like DJ set in clubs like Acadnana, 宀Club, Oma and Social Room. In 2020, he debuted on Boiler Room as one-third of the localCollective Utopia. All these asides, he fuses experimental electronic music with contemporary dance performance. Recently he’s played out in many Asian regions such as Japan and Vietnam; he’s also touring in China, injecting a kinetic groove into China’s underground scene.Finsent manages to give out his rolling DJ sets at those large-scale festivals. Steve Pan

Steve Pan is a producer, sound artist and DJ from Zhongshan, Guangdong. Artist of Asian Techno label Asylum and member of Beijing Cinopec, tutor of Point Blank China Shenzhen Academy. Focus on modular synth hardware, Tape Loops and Live Coding. He specializes in making textured sounds into Tape Loops as the tone and ambience of his scene, and uses mixers and effects as his sonic weapons. Deeply influenced by Dub, Ambient, Noise, Techno, Bass, Downtampo, DnB, IDM and other styles. In 2019, he participated in Australia’s first Algorave (real-time encoding to generate music) event held in Melbourne Music Week as a Live coder. He has presented live music many times in Melbourne’s famous experimental venue Bar Open and the fashion design graduation catwalk of RMIT University, as well as in pioneering cultural venues such as Oil, Lantern, ZhaoDai, and TAG in China. Deep and complex emotions can be felt in his scene.

Steve Pan explores the structure of time and the collision of sounds from different periods. He creates a never-ending mental state and infinite possibilities in the fusion of the three periods of the known past – the tape, the ever-running present – Live coding, the unpredictable future – the modular synthesizer . This idea draws on Eastern Taoism and Western surrealism. The Tao thought-form is a beautiful coordinated sequence of energy flows that unifies the past, present and future into a state of fusion. Converged thought-forms allow love to flow throughout time into the dream sequence that you are dreaming in a state of ecstasy. Surrealist art promotes the creative potential of the subconscious, pursues the unconscious in the creative process, and engages in the study of the subconscious dream world through automatism or accidental effects, as opposed to naturalism, which is not dominated by reason and relies on Instinct and Imagination, depicting surreal themes, expressing a fantasy world in the realm of imagination that is more real than the real world and more significant than the reproduction of the real world.

Steve Pan is a Chinese DJ, producer and live performer based in Melbourne now. Member of Techno label Asylum. He makes use of Dub ambient texture sound, cassette tape loop recording and different element from Techno, Garage, Downtempo, IDM, Avant-garde , experimental, noise and more to form his own Music. Fusion between Hi-Art performances, Live coding, live mixing and advances DJing, in his live set the audience will have a hypnotic alternate reality experience deeply connected with his complex synthetic sensation.

Steve Pan is currently experimenting with cassette recording and tape loop in his production and performance. He is trying to combine vintage analog technology and advance hi end audio technology to push his sound a step further.

Steve Pan has been experimenting the concept of com- paring different eras of time in his work – the known past, the uncertain present, and the unknown future. He also explore between the Chinese philosophical Taoism and western surrealism. Both ideology has huge influence on eastern and western art work, which Tao thought form is a beautiful sequence of synergies of flow that unite past present and future a state of fusion, and surrealism art promote the creative potential of the unconscious mind and arrived at by automatism or the exploitation of chance effects, unexpected juxtapositions.

mingo

His music is not limited by the label, and flows in various genres. The OIL “Hunny Dew” is resident, and he is doing his own Dub activities at the same time, operating with the inclusive spirit of opening boundaries. In the past few years, I have been honing my voice and technology, and constantly exploring my own unique thinking.

Mingo plays a catalogue imbued with a sense of detachment and otherworldliness. With an ethos of breaking down walls between genres, freewheeling hybridity, Mingo stays immune to genre dogmatism and agnostic about how his set would go on.
