Mammal Hands, a captivating trio consisting of saxophonist Jordan Smart, pianist Nick Smart, and drummer Rob Turner, is known for their enchanting, ethereal, and majestic sound. Formed in 2012 in the relatively remote city of Norwich, UK, the band draws inspiration from a mix of electronic, contemporary classical, minimalism, jazz, and folk influences, taking cues from renowned artists such as Pharoah Sanders, Gétachèw Mekurya, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Sirishkumar Manji.

Their distinctive sound, a result of countless improvisational rehearsals, pushes conventional boundaries. Each member contributes equally to the creative process, fostering a collective dynamic that emphasizes the synergy of the group rather than individual showcases.

This communal approach to music-making culminates in mesmerizing records and atmospheric live performances that have established them as one of Europe’s most thrilling bands.

Their fifth studio album, “Gift from the Trees,” released on Gondwana Records, encapsulates the trio’s innovative spirit. Recorded for the first time in a home studio, the album captures the band delving into a more profound, organic experience. With their unique blend of piano textures, dynamic percussion, and energetic saxophone, the album invites listeners to an immersive auditory journey that holds rewards with every replay.
